Technical Specification Standards And Certificates Advantages And Applications

A 333 kVA single-phase pole-mounted transformer represents the absolute upper capacity limit for all standard single-phase overhead distribution units. Due to its substantial heft — typically ranging from around 900 kg (2,000 lbs) to over 1,200 kg (2,700 lbs), with weight variation depending on whether the unit uses copper or aluminum windings — it is most often deployed as a platform-type assembly. Rather than being suspended directly from a single utility pole via standard hanger brackets, this large transformer is supported by a clustered set of structural crossbeams spanning between two adjacent poles.

FeatureStandard Technical Parameter

Rated Capacity

333 kVA (Continuous duty at 65°C temperature rise).

Primary Voltages (HV)

Configurable from 4,160V up to 34,500V (e.g., 7200V, 12470Y, 19920V, 34500Y).

Secondary Voltages (LV)

120/240V (standard split-phase), 277V, or 240/480V.

Impedance Range

Typically 1.5% to 4.0% (Customizable based on fault current limits).

Insulation & Cooling

ONAN (Mineral oil self-cooled standard). Vegetable-based ester oil available.

Winding Material

Copper (for lowest core losses and structural compact size) or Aluminum.

Efficiency Standard

Complies with IEEE C57.12.20, CSA C2.1, and DOE 2016/2026 standards.

ANSI C57.12.00

Advanced Design Profile & Component Specs
  • Bolt-Type Bushing Configurations: Given the high current output on the secondary side at 333 kVA (exceeding 1,300 Amps at 240V), the low-voltage side features rugged NEMA standard 4-hole or 6-hole spade terminals or ultra-heavy bolt-type clamps. The high-voltage side uses dual porcelain bushings with integrated eyebolt/bolt configurations.
  • Voltage Regulation: Outfitted with an external, de-energized 5-position tap changer (typically ±2 × 2.5%) to adjust for fluctuating line voltage drop.
  • Ancillary Gauges: Unlike smaller residential units (e.g., 25–50 kVA), a heavy 333 kVA unit is generally built with liquid level gauges, dial-type temperature indicators, and pressure/vacuum gauges to monitor internal tank stress.
  • System Layout: Available as Conventional type (requiring external surge arresters and drop-out fuses) or CSP type (Completely Self-Protected with an internal weak-link fuse and primary bayonet protection).

FAQ

Listed below are answers to our most commonly asked questions. Don't see your question?Contact our customer service team. We would be glad to assist you.

图片名称

Can a transformer be used outdoors?

图片名称
Yes, many transformers are designed for outdoor use, but they require waterproofing, dustproofing, and protective enclosures to withstand rain, dust, and temperature changes.
图片名称

Is transformer noise normal?

图片名称
A slight humming sound during operation is normal, caused by magnetization of the core and windings. However, if the noise is unusually loud or irregular, inspection is required.
图片名称

What causes a transformer to overheat?

图片名称
Common causes of transformer overheating include overloading, inadequate cooling, winding short circuits, or insulation aging. Prolonged overheating can shorten lifespan or cause failure.
图片名称

How often should a transformer be maintained?

图片名称
It is generally recommended to have a full inspection once a year, including insulation, cables, cooling systems, and oil quality tests to ensure safety and efficiency.
图片名称

Can a transformer run continuously?

图片名称
Yes, transformers are designed for long-term stable operation. As long as they run within rated voltage, load, and temperature limits, they can operate safely and continuously.
图片名称

What is the main function of a transformer?

图片名称
The main function of a transformer is to change voltage levels. It can step up voltage for long-distance transmission or step down voltage for safe use in equipment and households.
